1st Mickey Mouse Book

To celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday, in June 2018, Sotheby’s sold the first edition books of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck at The Library ofan English Bibliophile Part VIII. There rare books mark the debut of thecartoon characters and remind us of the creativity that Walt Disney brought tothe early days of Disney Studios.

The book is estimated at £1,500 – 2,000. It is extremely rare as it comes with its dust-jacket

The first editions of Mickey Mouse books introduced the cartoon character to book lovers in Great Britain and the United States. The Adventures of Mickey Mouse Book 1 (1931) is about ‘Mickey Mouse, who lives in a cozy nest under the floor of the old barn’, as quoted from the book. In 1931, the first comic strip devoted to Mickey Mouse appeared and the book was published later that year. Unfortunately, there are a number of issues with the first American edition, including an issue bound in cloth-backed boards. Blue and red cloth spines have been seen. The board binding, as here, is scarcer.
