1.   The Twelve Films of Christmas Revealed!

Radio 2 has been asking listeners to vote for their Ultimate Christmas Film. They had an amazing response and can now reveal The Twelve Films of Christmas – as voted for by their listeners!

Radio 2’s resident movie expert James King whittled down hundreds of Christmas films to a shortlist of 25 – all about Christmas or with the festive season as a significant backdrop. There were big hits, critical triumphs, and cult classics to really make the choice as varied – and difficult – as possible. But only twelve could make the final cut, and only one could be crowned the winner. Here is the Countdown:

  1. Scrooge – Starring: Alastair Sim UK Release: 1951

2.   Snowstorm breaks records in the US

The first major snowstorm of the season has set new records in parts of the US. Reporting 24.7 inches (62.7cm) of snow in Pennsylvania, the National Weather Service in State College said: “Williamsport regional airport made history.” Forecasters said the previous record was 24.1in (61.2cm) in 1964.

The cost per dose of Oxford University and AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine is just £3. That compares with £25 for the US’s Moderna vaccine, £15 for the US and Germany’s Pfizer-BioNTech shot and £7.50 for the jab developed by Russia’s Gamaleya.

4.    The Top 10 most-googled lyrics of 2020

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s WAP was the UK’s most Googled song lyrics in 2020.

The sex-fuelled banger came out on top of Google’s Year in Search 2020, as far as music lyrics were concerned.

The first single from Cardi’s second album, WAP united her with hot girl rapper Meg for one of 2020’s most controversial hits, full of explicit lyrics that, it turns out, we all just couldn’t stop googling.

Turns out, we all want to be certified freaks, seven days a week.

Cardi and Meg triumphed on the search list – in second was the late, great Dame Vera Lynn. The lyrics to her signature hit We’ll Meet Again got a huge boost after the Queen referenced the track in her speech to the nation during the pandemic in April, and again following Vera Lynne’s death earlier this year at the age of 103.

Other entrants on the list include Eminem with Godzilla, Roddy Rich with his breakout hit The Box, Billie Eilish’s chart-topping James Bond theme No Time To Die.

WAP’s dominance on the list, of course, is no surprise. In September the song hit Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart and spent three weeks at the top, giving both Cardi and Meg their first UK Number 1 singles.

  4. Roddy Rich – The Box
