THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Banksy’s Aachoo!!

I love Banksy art and I love making money, I was therefore surprised I missed this incredible story in December 2020. But better late than never.

Who has been the luckiest person in all of modern history?

A woman who was about to sell her house. The price was 350,000 euros, but now, the sale has stopped, because it can get almost 17 times more, that is, about 5.5 million euros. Thanks to Banksy having painted the exterior of his house.

The owner of the house, had planned to sell the house but the appearance of the work of the mysterious street artist that has been baptized as, “Aachoo !!” (as if it were a sneeze) and you have fully appreciated your home.

I think more luck than this is impossible. It gives something to think about, was it a coincidence or was it planned?

THE WHOLE STORY – First appeared 13th December 2020. (And I missed it!!!!)

Woman drops plan of selling her house after Banksy art appears on her wall

A homeowner in Bristol has reportedly pulled out of the sale of her house after a piece of Banksy art appeared on her wall overnight.

Aileen Makin was in the process of selling her home for £300,000 but decided to drop the plan after a Banksy art showing an older woman sneezing out her false teeth appeared on her wall and increased the value of the property by 17 times, according to reports.

The anonymous street artist confirmed that he was behind the stencil mural. He titled it ‘Aachoo!!’ on Instagram.

The mural shows an old lady’s dentures flying out while she is bending down and sneezing. The woman is wearing a white headscarf and a brown coat. She drops her walking stick and back as she sneezes.

Aileen’s property is located on Vale Street, which one of the costliest residential streets in England. According to a Guardian report, its 22-degree slope is used during annual Easter Sunday egg-rolling competitions.

The property even had a sold sign hanging outside and the owner was due to exchange the contracts in a few days before she decided to pull out of the deal due to the artwork.

Nicholas Makin, son of Aileen, told ITV News West County that people had started climbing over the house to get a look at the Banksy art.

Distressed by all the attention, his mother decided to stall the deal. It’s unlikely that the family will sell the house anytime soon as it could now be worth as much as £4 million.

Back in August 2020, the anonymous artist painted and financed a boat that rescued migrant refugees who were trying to come into Europe from Africa or the middle east.

Before that, Banksy went viral on the internet for his artwork where a child was shown playing with a doll dressed as a nurse. Captioned as ‘Game Changers’, the image was posted on Instagram and it pictured the healthcare workers as the new superheroes in town

And as the Guardian newspaper saw it:

Aachoo!, the new Banksy artwork in Bristol.

The owners of a house in Bristol have apparently pulled out of the sale of the property after a Banksy piece appeared on the wall.

On Thursday, the anonymous street artist confirmed he was behind the artwork showing an older woman sneezing out her false teeth, which has appeared on a semi-detached house in steep Vale Street, Totterdown.

The stencil mural, Aachoo!!”, had been covered up before its unveiling on Thursday morning.

It shows a woman in a headscarf holding a handkerchief but dropping her walking stick and handbag as she loses her dentures while sneezing.

Banksy confirmed on his website and Instagram account on Thursday afternoon that the work was his. In a photograph posted by him, the woman appears to be blowing over a wheelie bin and a man’s umbrella with her sneezing.

Vale Street is England’s steepest residential street – its 22-degree slope used during annual Easter Sunday egg-rolling competitions.

ITV News West Country spoke to the owners of the house, which had a sold sign up outside, and were told they have pulled out of the sale. They were due to exchange contracts next week but the artwork could see the value of their house rocket.

Nicholas Makin, whose mother Aileen owns the property, said people had been climbing over the house to get a better look at the new piece. He told ITV News West Country that his mother was distressed by the attention and they will take time to consider what to do next.

Fred Loosmore, 28, a furniture maker who until recently rented a room in the house, told the PA Media news agency he had put a clear covering over it for protection.

“We wanted to cover it up because people will deface it, and luckily we’ve got a workshop and a massive piece of acrylic we’ve got left over,” he said.

“When we lived here so many people would come, especially on bikes and stuff because they were trying to do the challenge up the hills. It’s a great spot. The artwork is so nice. It’s so relevant, isn’t it?”

On Thursday, people came to see and photograph the artwork. Jason Bartlett, 47, who grew up nearby, told the BBC: “I heard it on the news and I thought I’ve got to go and take a look. It’s going to get interesting for whoever owns the house I suppose.”

It is not the first Banksy to spring up during the pandemic. In October, the artist confirmed he was responsible for a mural depicting a girl hula-hooping with a tyre that appeared in Lenton, Nottingham.

In July, he also claimed responsibility for graffiti entitled If You Don’t Mask, You Don’t Get on a London Underground carriage depicting rats sneezing and others in face masks. It was later removed by Transport for London under its anti-graffiti policy.
