A BRIEF ENCOUNTER WITH MARGARET DICKINSON – BESTSELLING AUTHOR

jeanniejeanniejeannie.co.uk BLOG  2018

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

A couple of weeks ago in WHS Victoria Centre, Nottingham I met the bestselling author Margaret Dickinson. And what a wonderful person she is too, and so easy to talk to.

She was promoting her latest book “The Poppy Girls” which was published on 8th February 2018.

She told me that since 1997 she has had 25 books published by Pan (Macmillan), 6 of which have been in the Sunday Times Top 10 of Bestsellers! She now works on the basis of writing one new book a year.

She had her first book published when she was 25 years old, but this was before her lengthy relationship with Pan Macmillan began

I was hoping some of her success might rub off on to me. To someone like myself who has longed for a writing career all his life, her career is so enviable. As all successful authors do, she told me to keep trying.

She ran me through her annual programme of research, write, publish and promote.

She spoke in depth about the research which she does and enjoys so much. I know exactly what she means as I enjoy that aspect of writing too. For her current book she visited Ypes for inspiration and research of the First World War.

The Poppy Girls is based at Doddington Hall, Lincoln, a place I enjoy visiting and is well worth a visit. Also, that was used as the location to launch her book on 8th February 2018.

Romantic Saga is not normally a genre I read. But I found Margaret such a wonderful person to meet and very inspirational.  I admire so much what she has achieved in her writing life and career. So I have to give the book a go.

The following is a list of Margaret Dickinson books published by Pan:

As part of my being so impressed by Margaret Dickinson (my aunt who died shared her name but hers spelt slightly differently: Margaret Dickenson) and The Poppy Girls I have moved away from Children’s Books for my Book of the Day for today only and have chosen this Romance Saga as my Book of the Day.
