THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

Today, 2nd October 2018 is my eldest Grandson Rory’s birthday. I have come to realise there is an exciting close connection between our grandchildren’s birthdays and Bake Off and cakes.

That’s right, Cakes, Bake Off and my grandchildren’s birthdays blend into an effervescent mixture of pure excitement.

How’s that for a poetic and expressive sentence for my blog. I now need to use the next 500 words to explain what I mean.

I love all seasons for very different reasons. Autumn is beautiful from a Mother Nature view point, there is always exciting and dramatic weather. It is a season of anticipation as our excitement builds in the countdown to Christmas.

My eldest two grandchildren came into the world in this last quarter of the year. They brought huge excitement with them which continues as we celebrate their birthdays each year.

In recent years Bake Off has emerged as added excitement to the autumn season. The final is usually aired around 30th October. That is the actual date it will be broadcast this year, 2018.

As we waited for the call to say our first grandson had been safely delivered we watched Bake Off.

It took an hour from knowing our daughter had gone into hospital in labour to being told our second grandchild Freya had been born on Christmas Eve. In that time we watched a rerun of the 2012 Bake Off to try to bring some sort of assemblance to our nerves.

Comic Relief Bake Off was being run when third grandson Ewan was born in 2015. He was in a bit of a hurry so missed the day of the programme which was on the following night. David Mitchell was one contestant

Our fourth and final Grandson George did not get involved with Bake Off .  His Mum, however, has made up since by making loads of her unique road kill hedgehog cakes for him.

But is there a corelation between Bake Off and my grandchildren being born or is it just the fact Bake Off is never off our TV screens?

But Bake Off creations are nothing at the side of the excited anticipation we have for the unveiling of Rory’s birthday cakes. They are magnificent pieces of artwork and so delicious to eat. What more can you ask for in life.

Rory had his party on Saturday, 29th September. We were all more excited to see Rory 6th birthday cake than watching Bake Off final.

The cake had been made by “With A Cherry On Top” at Kirkby In Ashfield. This was the maker of his previous five birthday cakes and the three for brother Ewan too.

The Facebook website    Go to WITH A CHERRY ON TOP website     states “Bespoke cupcakes and cakepops with carefully handmade decorations.”

We waited quivering with excitement for the unveiling of Rory’s cake… and we were not disappointed, it was simply amazing. An incredible “Spiderman” cake which sat comfortably with the “Spiderman” themed party including a personal visit from Spiderman himself. “With great power comes great responsibility”.

Yet again we had our own Bake Off winner who goes from strength to strength. An added dimension of cakey excitement on these Goose Fair Autumn Days.

Happy 6th Birthday, Rory!
