CORONABOBS ISOLATION DAY 112 – Diary of a Self-Isolator Sunday 12th July 2020
Today we did something else that eased us back to normality. We met up with friends at their house and walked over the fields and motorway, approximately a 7-mile round trip to Beauvale Priory for Afternoon Tea. How normal is that?
Doing these normal things makes you feel so good inside. But the Beavale, Moorgreen and Greasley area is one of my favourite areas, anyway. For one thing it is pure unspoilt countryside. At one point, close to Greasley Church, we reached the high point of a hill and my friend stopped us and said “Just look at that view. As far as you can see (and it was a long way 30+ miles) green fields, trees and countryside.
There are lots of other reasons I love the area. I have lots of memories of growing up in the freedom of the countryside in that area, as a child. Most of my ancestors are buried in Greasley Churchyard. Lots of family events such as baptisms, weddings and funerals have taken place there too. The registers there contain my family history.
But I guess most of all I am a big D H Lawrence fan and lots of his works are based in this area. There are some of his stories that feature Beauvale Priory, too. The food there is delicious and within a wonderful setting.
I love to see the hens and cockerels and peacocks strutting around the place. There is a couple of sheep in a small paddock, too. The place has a lived-in cosy feel.
As there is lots of outside space and many outside tables, well spread out, it meant it was very busy with people. Inside there are very few tables, now. After lockdown, opening is just for four days a week: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tables have to be pre-booked. But still homemade delicious food!
The day was hot and sunny for walking and I for one was exhausted by the end. Especially after eating all that cake. Not good for a slightly overweight diabetic.
