CORONABOBS ISOLATION DAY 102 – Diary of a Self-Isolator Tuesday 21st July 2020

A few bits of interesting news.

  1. Jeff Bezos sets new record after major wealth acceleration

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has set a new record, increasing his fortune by an additional $13bn (£10bn) in a single day to take his personal wealth to $189bn. The acceleration in the wealth of the world’s richest man is the equivalent of adding nearly 30 times the Queen’s £350m fortune in a single day. His total wealth now makes him worth more than Britain’s biggest company, the pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca.

  1. Study concludes video games do not lead to violence

Video games do not lead to violence or aggression, according to a new analysis. Researchers re-examined 28 studies from previous years that looked at the connection between aggressive behaviour and video gaming. “Current research is unable to support the hypothesis that violent video games have a meaningful long-term predictive impact on youth aggression,” the report concluded.

  1. Thinktank says high streets should be used for housing crisis

The UK’s high streets could be transformed into housing, according to a thinktank. The Social Market Foundation said the UK cannot “turn the clock back” to a time before online shopping, particularly after internet retail gathered pace during the Covid-19 lockdown. Instead, town centres could be turned into residential hubs, creating at least 800,000 homes.

  1. How many Brits got moving with Joe Wicks?

PE: Joe Wicks the Body Coach has brought his live streamed daily PE lessons to an end after an impressive 18 weeks aimed at keeping the nation fit during the dark days of lockdown            .

Overall, 16% of adults say either they, or someone else in their household have taken part in a Joe Wicks workout before

24% of Brits aged 25-49 say their household has done one in the past, the most of any age group

TO ME:

Interesting thinking on turning the High street stores into homes. Just imagine moving into Next, Wilko, John Lewis, Toymaster or the Post Office to live. It would be a little intrusive if you had a lie in just having your breakfast and customers start arriving. And what if you are in the middle of your favourite soap on TV and someone buys the TV.

I really can’t see that working myself.

Talking of TV we watched Our Yorkshire Farm – Channel 5last night. The Owen family, Mum, Dad and nine children are a lovely family. And shows what a healthy life they have as you never see any of them with colds.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE FOR THE DAY

“The first step is clearly defining what it is you’re after, because without knowing that, you’ll never get it.”

— Halle Berry.

5 Things To Be Grateful For During Lockdown/Coronavirus

We are grateful  Lockdown gives us  a time…

  1. A time to play video games…A time maybe to leave the video games alone.
  2. A time to live in the countryside…A time to live on the High Street.
  3. A time to keep fit with Joe Wicks…A time to rest your weary body and put up your feet.
  4. A time to live on a Yorkshire Sheep Farm…A time to work on a Yorkshire Sheep Farm.
  5. A time to be the poorest man on earth…A time to be the richest man on earth.
