Lady Gaga’s Chromatica scores biggest opening week of 2020 on the Official Albums Chart
Lady Gaga’s latest album outperforms the rest of this week’s Top 10 combined.
Lady Gaga celebrates her fourth Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart today as her latest collection Chromatica debuts at the top with impressive opening-week numbers.
Gaga’s sixth record lands at the summit with 53,000 chart sales – the biggest opening week for an album on the Official Chart in 2020 so far. It’s also the strongest comeback for the singer in some time, Chromatica smashes the first week tallies of her 2014 Tony Bennett duets album Cheek To Cheek, 2016’s Joanne and the cast recording of A Star Is Born from 2018.
Chromatica outperformed the rest of this week’s Top 10 combined, finishing as the week’s best performing album across physical, streaming and downloads. It’s also the fastest-selling vinyl record of the year to date, with 8,500 copies of the record snapped up on wax this week.
Gaga also claims the biggest opening week for a female artist album since Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next in February 2019.
Three songs from Chromatica finish inside this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 40: Rain On Me ft. Ariana Grande at 2, Sour Candy with Blackpink at 17 and Alice at 29.
Gaga’s previous Number 1 studio albums are The Fame/Fame Monster (2009), Born This Way (2011), Artpop (2013). The soundtrack for A Star Is Born, which is credited as a cast recording, was also a Number 1 in 2018. View Lady Gaga’s Official Chart history so far here.
Meanwhile, Youtuber-turned-rapper KSI holds at Number 2 with his debut album Dissimulation, and Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent completes the Top 3.
Two more new releases land in this week’s Top 10: Golden Hour by Norwegian producer Kygo opens at 6, marking his second Top 10 album, and Manchester rapper Aitch is new at 7 with his Polaris EP.
Further down, the debut album from Scottish indie group Vistas, Everything Changes In The End, enters at 21, and Canadian rock band Rush are new at 22 with the 40th anniversary edition of their 1980 album Permanent Waves.

UK records more daily deaths than entire European Union
The UK recorded more coronavirus deaths than every member state of the EU combined yesterday, as health experts warn that Downing Street is risking a second wave of infections by easing lockdown too soon.
A total of 359 deaths were recorded in the UK, compared with 332 across the 27 countries in the bloc in the same 24-hour period.
The weather was not the best today, some rain but some sun.
We did our longest walk since the Lockdown began. From home to Newstead Abbey circular walk 6.5 miles. Afterwards our daughter told us it was No.17 In the Sunday Times Best Spring Walks on March 16th. That is not good news, drawing attention to it. It is a walk I do about three times a week in everyday life. Now every man, woman, child and their dog will be doing it.
The walk helped us whilst awaiting concerning news of my brothers-in-law’s hospital treatment.
I took delivery of a full book page magnifying glass to help my failing eyes. I learned about it from my daughter who deals with such things in her job.
It started off as a HumanWare Connect 12 electronic magnifier (new generation) distance viewing 25X at £2,900. But I then considered reducing it to an i-pad Pro around £1,000. But ended up buying a Fancii Full Page 2X Reading Magnifying Glass with 12 Dimmable LED Lights, Hands Free Magnifier with Stand & Lanyard – Large A4 Sheet Illuminated Vision Aid for Books, Newspapers.
I would still like the i-pad but can’t afford it. So I think I am going to sell things on Ebay to finance it.
Either that or do as my granddaughter did. She was desperate for a L.O.L. Surprise Ball. She has some much hard come by money in her piggy bank, but she did not want to use that. So, she wrote to the Tooth Fairy politely asking for one. The Tooth Fairy refused. So, she wrote to Santa who also refused. But, gullible grandparents stepped in.
I suppose I could crowd fund.
My dizziness seems to have cleared due to the tablets prescribed by the doctor. For which I am grateful. But he never rang back as he said he would.
I know the medical profession are busy and doing a perfect job, brilliant job and he has far better things than me to worry about. Ut’s not that bit. It is don’t say “I will ring you in a week’s time to check you out” if that ain’t going to happen. Just cut the conversation and say goodbye. I end up happy with and not disappointed in the system. All about expectations.
Tesco delivered ahead of time. That’s good.
Gogglebox was a Celebrity Gogglebox last night. Excellent! The producers know how to keep the comedy quality even with celebrities. My favourites are Bez and Shaun Ryder.
Another very interesting and fast moving lockdown day.

GRANDAD’S ONE LINER JOKE OF THE DAY
Indecision
Not long ago, my wife and I were having one heck of an argument.
“Leave!” she screamed at me. “Get out of this house!”
As I was walking out the door, she yelled, “I hope you die a slow and painful death!”
So I turned around and replied, “Now you want me to stay? Make up your mind!”
LOVE IS…
Love is…what you make it
