Countryfile Photographic Competition & Calendar 2018

R U JOKING, GRANDAD BLOG 12th October 2017

As regular readers will know I am very sceptical about photographic competitions and find them very subjective. The winning entries for the Countryfile (BBC) photographic competition for the 2018 Children In Need Calendar is very unusual that I think all 12 winners are excellent.

The competition has been run since the year 2000, raising millions for Children In Need. Most years I have found the winning shots leave a lot to be desired. But this year is exceptional.

Every one of the 12 photographs, to me is a wonderful piece of graphic art.

Even the titles are excellent conjuring up magical images and stories:

January                   – Winter Wanderers

February                – A Little Love

March                    – Solitude

April                       – Twin Beaks

May                       – Down Time

June                        – Dandelion King

July                         – First Flight

August                   – Flutter By

September             – Dark Horse

October                  – Highland Majesty

November             – Caught Napping

December              – Leap of Faith

The price per calendar is £9.50 including FREE UK delivery.

In 2016 the calendars raised more than £2.2 million for BBC Children in Need.

The theme for the 2018 calendar was ‘Call of the Wild’ and each month features one of the finalists from the Countryfile Photographic Competition.

HAPPINESS IS…

Happiness is…kicking the golden leaves and letting them shower down over your grandchildren on a sunny Autumn day
