Here I share with you 20 facts I Didn’t Know Last and have learned during this week.

 

1              The scandal of our neglected schools. The government claims it is putting more money than ever into schools. A recent analysis by the Institute of Fiscal Studies that once you take account of inflation, funding per pupil in England has fallen by 8% since 2009-10, the biggest cut to school budgets in three decades. Many schools have resorted to setting up Amazon wish lists to encourage parents to help provide such basics as stationery. Some heads are having to double up as mini-bus drivers and cleaners. 2              In the average lifetime, a person will walk the equivalent of 5 times around the equator. That’s 5 miles a day for every day of their life? Do you really think so?

3              43% of Britons say they mostly watch television as it is shown, and 28% mainly watch it recorded – You Gov

4              There is a big age difference – 64% of the over-65s say they mostly watch TV as it is shown, compared to 17% of those aged 18-24

5              Whereas 48% of 18-24 year olds watch TV streamed, nearly ten times as many as the over-65s (5%)

6              10% of all photographs in the world have been taken in the past 12 months

7              The first phrase in Jerome K Jerome’s “Three Me In A Boat” is “There were four of us.”

8              Over 7,000 US citizens die and 1.5 million impair their health due to illegible doctors’ writing

9              Every 10th European child has been conceived on an Ikea bed.

10           In 1800 43.3% of choldren in the world died before their 5th birthday. By 2017 this had dropped to 3.91% which is still too many

11           Summer on Neptune is 40 years long., but the temperature is minus 200 degrees C

12           Moon dust smells of gunpowder

13           The name for Oz in the “Wizard of Oz” was thouhj up when the creator, Frank Baum, looked at his filing cabinet and saw A-N, and O-Z, hence Oz

14           The largest number of children born to one woman is recorded at 69. From 1725 – 1765 , a Russian peasant woman gave birth to 16 sets of twins, 7 sets of triplets, and four sets of quadruplets

15           The first product to have a bar code was Wrigleys Chewing Gum

16           Mary Stewart became Queen of Scotland when she was just six days old

17           The three best-known western names in China are: Jesus Christ, Richard Nixon and Elvis Presley – I suspect Donald Trump is making good headway, though.

18           The sound of E.T. Walking was made by someone squishing their hands in jelly

19           Baby Robins eat about14 feet of earthworms every day

20           Donald Duck comics were banned from Finland because he doesn’t wear pants
