BLOG OF THE DAY

DIDN’T KNOW THAT LAST WEEK

I love to always be measuring how muchextra information I have gained. You should always be gathering new information. here are 25 snippets I’ve picked up this week:

About 7% of all humans who have ever lived are alive today.

A chicken lived without a head for 18 months.             Mike the Headless Chicken is perhaps the most famous example. Its owner, a farmer named Lloyd Olsen, chopped his head off in 1945, but the chicken just didn’t die. So the family kept him around and dropped food and water directly into his esophagus. It finally gave out after 18 months and considerable media attention.

The Guinness Book of World Records was created to settle bar arguments.

Nintendo was founded in 1889.        The beloved Japanese gaming company is about 100 years older than you probably thought. Decades before Pokémon and Mario, Nintendo started out as a card game company. They slowly branched out into other forms of gaming over the years.

France executed the last person by guillotine as recently as the same year “Star Wars: A New Hope” came out.           The first “Star Wars” movie was released on May 25, 1977. As evilcheerio pointed out on Reddit, the last person executed by guillotine in France was Hamida Djandoubi, on September 10, 1977. He was the last person to be legally executed by beheading in the Western world and the last person to be legally executed in the European Union.

There are more trees on earth than there are stars in the galaxy.

More people live in Bangladesh than in Russia.            Don’t let size fool you here. Although Bangladesh is smaller than Russia, its population is 163 million people. The population of Russia is 144.3 million.

A Banyan Tree near Kolkata, India is bigger than the average Walmart

              Honey never expires.

A Texas TI-83 calculator has six times more processing power than the computer that landed Apollo 11 on the moon.

If the human brain were a computer, it could perform 38 thousand-trillion operations per second. The world’s most powerful supercomputer, BlueGene , can manage only .002% of that.

Of all the people in history that have reached 65 years of age, half of them are living right now.

           A mosquito has 47 teeth.

The longest interval between the birth of twins is 87 days.

More people in the world currently suffer from obesity than from hunger.

A mouse can fit through a hole the size of a ballpoint pen.

A large percentage of the budget for Monty Python and the Holy Grail was donated by members of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

Michael Jordan makes more money from Nike annually than all of the Nike factory workers in Malaysia combined

In 30 minutes, the human body gives off enough heat to bring a gallon of water to a boil.

Just before the Nazis invaded Paris, H.A. and Margret Rey fled on bicycles. They were carrying the manuscript for Curious George, the children’s book about a monkey.

The world’s longest musical piece lasts 639 years.

90% of the world’s population lives in the Northern Hemisphere.

           McDonald’s once made bubblegum-flavored broccoli.

Fact: The longest English word is 189,819 letters long                We won’t spell it out here (though you can read it here), but the full name for the protein nicknamed titin would take three and a half hours to say out loud.

Fact: Most Disney characters wear gloves to keep animation simple

And did you know on 3rd September 1995 Auction site Ebay was formed under the name Auction Web
