BOOK OF THE WEEK REVIEW 16th July 2019

Ella and Mrs Gooseberry: Discovering What Love Looks Like by Vikki Conley (Author), Penelope Pratley (Illustrator)

Hardcover:           32 pages

Age Range:           4 – 8 years

Publisher:              EK Books

Publication Date: 15th August 2019

The book’s description:

Grumpy old Mrs Gooseberry from next door has lost her love. “I didn’t know you could lose love,” says Ella. So she begins her quest to find out what love looks like and how she can help Mrs Gooseberry to rediscover it. Her mother says love is like home-cooked pie. Her teacher says it’s like lanterns in the night. Perhaps love might look like a little kitten…

Ella and Mrs Gooseberry is an inspiring picture book about a child’s understanding of love, selfless giving and how it makes you feel.

The jeanniejeanniejeannie.co.uk BLOG REVIEW

Whilst looking for a Children’s Picture Book of the Week I had no hesitation in choosing Ella & Mrs Gooseberry – Discover what love looks like by Vikki Conley & Penelope Pratley,

This beautifully illustrated book tells an excellent well written story with the main character being a very caring little girl.

The story in the book flows smoothly easily carrying the reader, child or/and parent, through the pages with no effort. But one of the best things about the book, the story and the pictures is that they are filled with love.

One of the many things I so enjoyed about the book is it tells how Ella sees a problem, researches it so that she understands it fully and then provides a solution. The child hearing this story learns so what love is but also a recipe to solve issues in life.

Love is the theme of this book and the reader learns what love is all about. The reader will also love all the characters particularly Ella and even grumpy Mrs Goseberry (what a tremendous name). They will love the story. They will love the pictures. They will love the book.

Penelope Pratley’s paintings illustrating each page add so much to the book to inspire the reader’s imagination.

To me this book has everything a good children’s picture book should have, a tremendous story from which the reader learns and can take away and add to their life. It has wonderful pictures. It has the appeal that will make you want to read it over and over again.

The book is published 15th August 2019. I recommend you go out and buy it as it will lift the sagging, getting boring, middle of August, Summer school holidays. Any reader will get alot from it because it is a treasure.
