A PS to yesterday’s Blog Post
Mariah Carey paid £9 million to have face splashed across 50 million packets of Walkers Christmas crisps
All she wants for Crisps-mas… Mariah Carey is cleaning up with the Walkers Christmas ad as the diva bagged millions upon millions to have her face splashed across packets of crisps – 50 million of them, to be precise.
The singer is worth an estimated £244 million as the third biggest selling female artist of all time, and is giving her hefty bank balance a mighty boost by replacing the Spice Girls in Walkers’ latest campaign – a collection of Christmas inspired crisps, with flavours ranging from Pigs in Blankets to Brussel Sprouts. And her fee for shifting the festive snacks? Just a casual £9 million, according to The Sun.
The campaign image sees Mariah dressed in a sequinned red dress with a plunging neckline, standing next to a sleigh on the show, while holding a bag of Walkers Ready Salted. ‘Everyone knows how festive I am, and it’s been fun getting into the holiday spirit this year with Walkers crisps – they’re irresistible,’ MiMi enthused as she launched her first promo with the crisp company.
Wayne Newton, head of marketing at Walkers, added: ‘Our seasonal range of flavours – from Pigs in Blankets to Brussels Sprouts – has just been reintroduced to shelves, and we know the nation is already feeling festive as a result. ‘But with Mariah on board too, our Christmas spirit has just stepped up a gear. ‘We can finally announce that the Queen of Christmas herself will be the star of our biggest ever Walkers Christmas advert.’
The left-field campaign happens to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Mariah’s 1995 album, Merry Christmas – featuring All I Want For Christmas Is You, festive classics like Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) and Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town and hymns including Silent Night and O Holy Night – which was re-released on 1 November. That girl never misses a trick!
Blogging Editor’s Note. I am prepared to say I would have been happy to have done this for a fraction of the price, namely £9k and happily had my photograph on 100 million packets of crisps. All Walkers need to do was ask. Look at the savings they would have made,
