THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
12 GOOD NEWS STORIES FROM 2020
You may not believe it but there were some good news stories around the world in 2020 if you search for them. Here’s 12 of them.
1.) The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way people live all around the world, and in some countries has seriously impacted the ability of children to access education. One solution comes in the form of a ‘camel library’ run by Save The Children, which aims to tackle the problem of children being absent from school for long periods of time.
The mobile library brings vital books to 22,000 children in 33 villages across Ethiopia, spending two and a half days at each site, in which time the camels rest, eat and have examinations for illness, carried out by their herders.
2.) Jimmy Fallon Asks Twitter to Describe Their Quarantine in Six Words—and the Results Are Hilarious
But with his 51 million fans on Twitter, Jimmy Fallon was able to pull in responses from all over the globe for his Tonight Show #Hashtags segment, even though he is stuck at home— and he got some of the funniest responses, to date.
While sheltering in place, Fallon has begun producing homemade episodes for YouTube, calling them Tonight Show: At Home Edition. They feature camerawork by his wife, and occasional segments with his two young daughters. (Not only is he raising people’s spirits, he has also raised tens of thousand for a different charity each day, starting with FeedingAmerica.org.)
For his home edition of #Hashtags, Jimmy tweeted to fans asking them to describe their quarantine in six words. Fallon kicked off the hilarious social media trend by describing #MyQuarantineInSixWords: “Fine. You can paint daddy’s nails.”
@Richachoubey joined the fun by summarizing her days at home this way: “Yes Netflix, I am still watching”.
LOL. Here are some of the other brilliant #hashtags from pent-up folks on Twitter…
Day one: ate all the snacks.
Oh, how we can RELATE!
Longest day of my life, every day.
Expelled my kid from home school. (RFLAO)
Funyuns for dinner. Ok, breakfast too.
Is 7 Hot Pockets too many? (Jimmy answered, No.)
There’s not enough wine for this.
And, perhaps the best of all, by MunaNawabit1: Very close to befriending a volleyball. 🤣
Or, fine, you can paint daddy’s nails.
TO ME
Ok, give me a break, I know those examples were not as funny as they talked them up but the idea if used with a good imagination and good solid British humour can create some hilarious results. Try it. In no more than six words describe your quarantine.
Well, go on then, what are you waiting for?

8.) Businessman Needing a Warehouse Stumbles Upon World’s Largest Train Set—And Refuses to Simply Tear it Down. Rather than tear down the elaborate model train display in this New Jersey warehouse, a businessman paid a quarter-million to renovate it for the public.
9.) Crayola unveiled new inclusive skin-tone crayons.
In May, Crayola unveiled its most inclusive skin-tone crayons yet. The “Colors of the World” pack includes crayons that represent over 40 skin tones, giving kids the chance to “accurately color themselves into the world,” the company said.
“Crayola hopes our new Colours of the World crayons will increase representation and foster a greater sense of belonging and acceptance,” Crayola CEO Rich Wuerthele said in a news release. “We want the new Colours of the World crayons to advance inclusion within creativity and impact how kids express themselves.”
10.) Polio was officially eradicated on the African continent.

11.) Congo discharged its last Ebola patient.
