Puffin have come up with a list of 21 must-read books for 6-9-year-olds.


Today I am featuring Part 2 of that list 11- 21 of very highly recommended brilliant books. Part 1 1-10 appeared yesterday. Enjoy!


From classic reads to the most spectacular of space adventures, these books will beat boredom and inspire young readers. And with so many to choose from, the fun need never stop…


11           The Firework-Maker’s Daughter by Philip Pullman, Peter Bailey (Illustrator)

18           The Sheep-Pig by Dick King-Smith

19           The Hundred-Mile-an-Hour Dog by Jeremy Strong

In this ‘pawsome’ story we meet Streaker, a mixed-up kind of dog – she’s a rocket on four legs with a woof attached. And her owner Trevor has until the end of the holidays to train her – or else. Gulp. Jeremy Strong’s books have enchanted countless young readers over the years, but if you ask us, this one’s top dog.


20           Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway (book 12) by Jeff Kinney

The Heffley family decide it’s time to get away from it all and go on a relaxing holiday together – somewhere where the weather doesn’t SUCK. What could possibly go wrong in a Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, we ask you? The Heffleys soon discover that paradise isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be. Expect sunstroke, stomach troubles and venomous creatures; a classic page-turning, laugh-out-loud adventure from Jeff Kinney that guarantees some seriously silly fun!
