THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
Grandchildren are amazing full stop. I could do a list of a million reasons why they are amazing. On that list would be an entry that said they teach me so many things I never knew.
For example, I have never been into Superheroes. But I now have two grandsons into them in a big way and I am expected to know each and every Superhero and their special powers, and have an intelligent conversation about them.
I also have a granddaughter whose August Summer Holiday homework is about Superheroes.
So guess what, I am now a Superheroes expert.
When I was young comics were frowned upon. You had to read books, comics were viewed as trash. I guess not trash because ‘trash’ is an American word and it was not correct to use Americanisms.
All that has changed ‘trash’ as a word is ok, and comics have come of age.
There is even a comic book (although they call them ‘graphic novels’) long listed for the 2018 Man Booker Prize, Nick Drnaso (USA) – Sabrina (Granta Books) is the first ever graphic novel to be long listed for the Man Booker Prize, Drnaso was selected by judges who were captivated by his work about a woman who disappears and the 24 hours that follow. With illustrations, this artist presents a tale of violence and fake news conspiracy.
Yes, comics are part of the culture in children’s books as far as I am concerned, but not the Man Booker nominated one, of course.
So with all that in mind I thought we’d look at some superhero lists and facts.
