THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

Here are a few random facts I found which are interesting and in some cases worrying:

The paper says economic analysts fear idle airports, empty restaurants and gridlocked motorways will halve the country’s GDP growth for the first quarter of this year, reducing it from 0.4% to 0.2%. The Observer

Home entertainment spending overtakes print. Sales of music, video and games overtook those of magazines, books and newspapers for the first time in the UK last year. According to data from the Entertainment Retailers Association, punters splashed a record £7.2bn on all forms of music, video and games, surpassing the £7.1bn spent by consumers on books, magazines and newspapers. A spokesman said the milestone was an “extraordinary testament” to the sector’s popularity. Daily Mail

Reading to toddlers in decline. 51% of preschool children are read to daily, down from 69% in 2013. In the same period, the number of toddlers who watch online video content daily has risen by almost a fifth. The Guardian
