THE JOY OF FATHER’S DAY GREETING CARDS
jeanniejeanniejeannie.co.uk BLOG 2019
I am usually sent good Father’s Day cards but this year they were exceptional.
The best job I had which even edges ahead of working in a record shop was working in the greeting card industry in the Glory Days of greeting cards. The 1970s & 1980s.
I was fortunate enough to work for one of the best and most creative greeting card retailer in the world.
The reason I enjoy greeting cards is the creative art:
1 Excellent creative pictures – pieces of art in themselves. I love pictures
2 Words. Good cards always use creative writing. I love words.
3 Humour. Good cards also have excellent humour in them I love humour
4 Quality papers. Good cards are printed on quality textured paper. I love textured paper.
5 A good quality greeting card is a joy to behold.
6 A greeting cards incorporates all my artistic loves except music.
My two daughters sent cards that fulfilled all these criteria and more besides. A card more than anything else, to me shows how much you think of a person, especially when it’s been thought through and fits that person exactly. That takes time and deep commitment.
The bespoke cards you design specifically online are not so special. There is a lot more effort put in when you have to search for an off the shelf card that fits the bill.
Sadly, good quality creative cards are not easy to find either on the High Street or online. Most of the cards on offer are cheap tat.
Due to my love of Children’s Picture books I was also given Eric Carle’s Hungry Caterpillar I Love Dad. The book is an excellent simple book that just spelled out my father/daughter with both daughters.
This really is the joys of fatherhood for me
