WE GIVE THANKS FOR MY BROTHER IN LAW: DEREK HODGKINSON’S LIFE TODAY

WE GIVE THANKS FOR MY BROTHER IN LAW: DEREK HODGKINSON’S LIFE TODAY

At his funeral, we say our sad goodbyes and remember a fantastic guy who was filled with wonderful subtle humour.

A dedicated and loving, Husband, Dad and Grandad!

Thanks for everything, including the great memories, Derek, but most of all thanks for being you.  a very special person. We love you and always will!

BROTHER IN LAWS TOGETHER

Derek’s daughter Jane put together an amazing eulogy. A eulogy is a way to say goodbye and let everyone remember their loved one. The one Jane put together about her dad did that perfectly. It was down to earth, basic and gentle, caring and filled with love and humour just like her dad!

Music is one of the best ways of remembering people and the good times. These were the three tracks played that did just that as we said our goodbyes.

  1. Can't Help Falling In Love With You Elvis Presley 3:02
  1. Dance With My Father Luther Vandross 4:26
  1. Proud Mary Creedence Clearwater Revival 3:09

I feel extremely privileged to be asked to read this poem,

on behalf of my niece, Jane on this most sad of occasions.

The poem reflects Jane’s feelings of the devastation of losing her outstanding and dedicated dad as we reflect on his wonderful life and give grateful thanks for it.

I Sat With You Today by Paula O’brien.

I sat with you today you know,

I sat right in your chair,

I know I could not see you,

But I knew that you where there…

I couldn’t hear your voice at all,

But I heard every word that was spoken,

I sat with you today you know,

Calm, but yet so heartbroken…

I know you follow me around,

I have known it from the start,

But sometimes I am afraid to look,

So heavy is my heart…

I often feel you touch my face,

Or think I feel you near,

But when I try to see you,

It’s like you simply disappear…

I love you more and more each day.

And beg for you to know,

I find it harder every day,

Just to let you go…

I sat with you today you know,

I’m sure that was your scent,

I cannot understand it though,

How you just suddenly went…

I’ll sit with you tomorrow,

If that’s ok with you,

Sometimes it feels the only thing

I still know what to do…

I love you Dad!
